Unfortunately, the book is a bit repetitive, dry, condescending, and repetitive. I, too, make all of my students buy this book even though I don't get a cut of Matt's money. At times it was to much to handle at onceso I had to re-read some sections. When he gave it back to me, he questioned why I was reading it mwnual he lost interest fast and found it boring.

Ucb comedy improv Manual

Even though I took classes at UCB and other locations, I found this very helpful in order to lead my improv team here in Jerusalem. Amy Poehler suggested reading this book in her memoir "Yes Please" which I liked. Imorov other words, commitment to the scene is essential. Obviously, the think the UCB style is best because it's worked for them for so long, and the present how they understand and teach it.

It finishes the journey the Del Close started when trying to define what works about improv as performance and what doesn't. Want to Read saving….

Once you apply the theories and techniques, then that's when the book pays for itself. Many other great institutions have had their heyday Second City, IO, The Groundlingsbut if you want to know improv now you should study long form, and you should study with the masters. Additionally, at least one paragraph in the book was in a different font to the others, which was frankly bizarre. Would be good for aspiring teachers, not just students.

Read for the improv class I'm taking at the UCB, it's such an interesting read, very helpful, and doesn't feel ikprov like at all. Read, highlight, and take notes, across web, tablet, and phone.

Great book imprlv great insight and examples.

Took some improv classes and this is pretty much dead on what we practiced. While the framework and approach here is solid and clear, it's also limited and limiting. Including one that will be discussed in two weeks right here.

There are of course dozens of other great books that focus on specifics, and countless terrible books. Nov 03, Carmen manuql it really liked it.

These are the great starting books to learn the core of our craft. Buy it, and then, if you are lucky enough to live nearby, go take some classes and put your ego maanual the line.

The Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by Matt Besser

More of a review to eventually follow My library Help Advanced Book Search. The book is filled with exercises, terminology, examples, scene analysis and all the other things you would expect from this kind of book. It was worth every cent to me! Written by UCB founding members Matt Nanual, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh, the manual covers everything from the basics of two person scene work with a heavy emphasis on finding "the game" of the sceneto the complexities of working within The Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual impro a comprehensive guide to the UCB style of long form comedy improvisation.

Great explanation of the basics but also covers a wide range manuap topics related to the art form. I've never found more clear definitions and approaches to concepts like the game of the scene, crazytown, believable characters, plot, etc.

Book Highlight: UCB Manual

Nitpick unrelated to content: This is truly the perfect book on long-form improvisation. A must have for any performer. That's why I chose to pick up this book. At the end, it did become slightly more serious.
